Internet Marketing - Tips For Buying Relevant Domain Names

Having a good relevant domain name is very important if you want to get lots of responsive traffic to your website. It is no good having a domain name that sounds like fishing if your niche is about improving your golf swing.

A great relevant domain name needs to be carefully chosen so that it is well connected to your products or services. The reason for this is that people can find your website faster if it has a relevant name. Just take an example from the offline world in that if you are looking for a shoe shop you would look for a shop name that tells you that it is a shoe shop by simply having the words shoe shop as part of it's name. It is no different online in that people look for websites with a name that reflects the main niche of the website.

You have basically two choices when you purchase a domain name. You can buy a new one or buy a used one. Just like new and used cars there are advantages and disadvantages in buying new and used domain names. However a new domain can be cheaper than a used one because of the simple fact it has no history and is not indexed by the search engines.

If buying a used domain name then you should buy one that is at least six months old as you then will be able to check out it's history. It should be keyword rich with your main keyword but also something that is easy to remember.

With used domain names it is important to check that they are not banned or blacklisted. This can easily be checked by typing in the following into a Google search. Site: yourproposeddomainname.com - If it shows up in the results then it has been indexed and is unlikely to have been banned or blacklisted.

New domain names will not be indexed or have a page rank. Always check that the page rank specified on a used domain name is valid. There are various free tools available to check this plus lots of other domain name details. A page rank of 3 or higher is likely to give you instant traffic to your new website which is one reason why they cost a lot more than new domain names. Another important thing to check along with the page rank with used names is that they can be transferred.

New domain names can be purchased from any domain name registry while used names can be purchased from online option sites such as eBay or Flippa. You can also do a search for "domain names for sale" to find premium and expired domain names for sale.

As already mentioned used domain names could already have traffic going to them and be indexed in the search engines whereas new domain names will not be indexed and it will take awhile for the traffic to start flowing to them. The higher the Alexa ranking a used name has the better but this is likely to cost you more money.
