3 Tips to Starting a Profitable Website - Pitfalls You Might Not Think About

You have been working on your website, slowly building it up to the most profitable site out there, when one day you log on and it's not there!

Whoa!

Where in the world did my website go?

If you don't think panic sets in almost immediately, then you are very mistaken.

Let me offer a few tips to starting a profitable website that the "gurus" probably didn't tell you about.

1. Domain renewal: this might sound pretty "dumb" but if your domain is close to expiring and the place you bought your domain from doesn't have your correct e-mail address, you can wake up one day and see your domain "parked" on some webpage with a message: "that this domain has expired and is temporarily parked as a courtesy of the domain host provider".

This happened to me. My web designer typed in the wrong email address for my contact information, and I never received the domain renewal notifications.

Solution: verify your contact info with who ever you are doing business with. Also save all your sign up information. It can take an act of congress to get access to your domain if you lose your account numbers! Don't leave this for your web host to file for you.

2. Servers: make sure your website has servers that are properly backed up and protected from hackers. My website was found down a few times due to server issues at my hosting company. This can be costly when you are doing pay per click and your clicks are not getting to your site.

This is not good for your profitable website you worked so hard on.

Solution: check out your hosting service so you know their back up capabilities.

3. Changes: websites tend to be works in progress. You will probably be adjusting your profitable website as your business grows and you see things to make different. Try to include as much as you can upfront because the additions later can be costly.

Adding cost when you are starting a profitable website is not what you want when you are also looking to advertise your business. Shop around and make sure your website designer is not looking to charge you on minor changes.

Also look at learning to do some changes yourself. You will probably want to know how to do simple changes. Things like adding a line of text, linking a page or hyper linking.

Building a profitable website includes all the basics but be sure to not over look these things too.

Turning on your computer and not seeing your site can make your nerves rattle. Not a good thing for your profitable website.
